FIGHTING ILLEGAL OIL BUNKERING

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in a bid to checkmate the incessant rise of illegal oil bunkering within the South South Geopolitical Zone have concluded plans to set up an integrated chemical laboratory which would situated at Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The Chief Detective Superintendent (CDS) Aliyu Nabi who happens to be the Zonal Head of the Commission did host Executives of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) on Tuesday, 27th April, 2021 where issues relating to the Department of Petroleum Resources and the Economic and  Financial Crimes Commission will work together in ensuring

that there is speedy investigation of cases on illegal Oil by setting up of a Chemical Laboratory. The Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN)  Zonal Chairman, System 2E Eastern Zone, Prince Sunny Nkpe,  in a bid to boosting the Economy of the nation has decided to partner with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in enabling a safe working environment and ensuring quality control of petroleum products.

The Establishment of such Chemical laboratory will help to check mate the issues of adulteration of petroleum products and time frame for investigation as to analyzing the products and also the source as to where such adulterated product was loaded can also be traced owing to the fact that movement of trucks and drivers are been monitored via Quality Control Unit. The Chemical Laboratory been set up will help in the speedy investigation over illegal oil bunkering activities which have taken a toll on the Petroleum industry.
