THE NEED TO CONCEAL COURT JUDGEMENTS: A CALL BY THE CHIEF JUSTICE OF NIGERIA, JUSTICE IBRAHIM T. MUHAMMAD

On August 3, 2021, the Chief Justice of Nigeria in a keynote in Workshop for Judicial Workers, titled “Promoting Discipline and Commitment among Court Employees”, warned judicial staff to cease from disseminating court judgments for financial benefits. This call was made same period where the  Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan, in a circular HCSF/3065/VOL.1/94, sternly cautioned civil servant against unapproved dissemination of confidential/official documents over media space.

The CJN in his address stated the need for integrity and transparency are essential requirements needed for the dispensation of justice. He urged judicial workers to discharge their duties with utmost sense of commitment and handle court records, exhibits and court judgments with care and utmost discrete.

The judiciary is the last hope of the common man and judicial staff are expected to heed this timely admonition of the CJN in the overall benefit of administration of justice and rule of law.
