The Federal Government of Nigeria in a bid to eliminate the insecurity issues in the country has established the National Vehicle Registry (also known as VREG) in line with the Strategic Revenue Growth initiative. This will generate income for the country and fight against insecurity. This call was made by Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning at a seminar held at Grand Central Hotel, Kano wherein the ministry is burdened with the control of the nation’s finances and revenue streams.

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan on August 2, 2021 had issued a circular, HCSF/3065/VOL.1/94 titled “Unauthorized circulation of official documents/information on social media”. This came because of the continuous unapproved dissemination of confidential/official documents over the media space. The Circular was made available to the three arms of Government, the Executive, Legislative and Judiciary. Inclusive to this list were the Chief of Staff to the president, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Permanent Secretaries, Service Chiefs, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Independent Corrupt Practices Commission amongst others.

NEWS UPDATE: EFCC LAUNCHES ‘EAGLE EYE’ APP TO EASE FINANCIAL CRIMES REPORTING.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday the 14th day of July, 2021 launched a computer application known as “Eagle Eye”, to ease the reporting of economic and financial crimes to the commission. Speaking at the launch in Abuja, the Chairman of the Commission, Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa, stated as follows: “the application was designed to complement existing channels of reporting crimes. A unique advantage of the application was the elimination of direct person-to-person interface in the reporting process, thereby guaranteeing anonymity and an added incentive for effective whistle blowing. For us at the EFCC, this event is unique in several ways. It’s the first of its kind by any law enforcement agency in the country. Secondly, it’s the product of ingenuity by a staff of the commission, being an application that was initiated, designed and developed by the EFCC. Thirdly, it’s a clear demonstration of my pledge, on the assumption of office, to run an agency that’s technologically driven”.

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has announced the launch of its Support Centre for the tracking of complaints of its esteemed customers.

According to the official statement issued by the Commission which reads as follows; “In order to serve you better, CAC utilizes a support ticketing system. Every support request is assigned a unique ticket number which an individual can use to track the progress and resolution of the complaint online”.

CHIEF MIKE OZEKHOME (SAN) settled the debate

CA/L/174/19 – FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA v. CHIEF MIKE OZEKHOME (SAN)

The Court of Appeal in Appeal No: CA/L/174/19 – FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA v. CHIEF MIKE OZEKHOME (SAN) settled the debate on whether legal fees are proceeds of unlawful activity.

FACTS

The facts of the case stemmed from an arms deal procurement by the Federal Government. There were allegations of embezzlement of the arms deal money leading to an investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (hereinafter simply referred to as (“EFCC”).  In the course of investigation, EFCC approached the Lagos division of the Federal High Court presided by Hon Justice M.B Idris (as He then was) and obtained an interim order to freeze some bank accounts linked to Governor Ayodele Fayose, the former Governor of Ekiti State. Fayose subsequently approached the Ado Ekiti division of the same court presided by Hon. Justice Taiwo Taiwo and obtained judgment setting aside the earlier order of Idris J.
