HANDLING AND SUBMISSION OF COURT PROCESSES: LAGOS STATE JUDICIARY HAS STOPPED THE COLLECTION OF COURT PROCESSES DIRECTLY FROM COUNSEL AND LITIGANTS
By: Emmanuel Adefeso Esq.
The Lagos State Judiciary has released a circular directed to all the High Court Assistant Chief Registrars, Assistant Chief Registrars, Admin of Magistrate Courts, High Court Registrars, and Magistrate Court Registrars on matters relating to Handling and Submission of Court Processes.
In the circular, Chief Judge Justice K.O Alogba, directed that henceforth all Court Processes filed by Counsel shall be dispatched by the Record Section of the Litigation Registry and that on no occasion should Registrars receive processes from Counsels, Litigants, and/or Litigation officers. The Circular which was signed by Mr. Adekeye N. A. the ACR (Litigation), Ikeja directs all Registrars to adhere to the directive as failure to comply will attract disciplinary action.
The directive is a good development which would go a long way in ensuring the sanctity and integrity of courts or the filling process at the court registry. However, it is hoped that the Lagos State judiciary will put in place an effective procedure for handling and submission of court process so that there will be no unnecessary delay in proper filling of processes at the registry.
